It’s official. Eddie Alvarez has left the UFC.
After an extraordinary run with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, defeating the likes of Rafael Dos Anjos, Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje, and Gilbert Melendez, The Underground King has now penned a lucrative deal with Singapore-based promotion ONE Fighting Championship.
Speaking on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Alvarez gave some insight into his new deal:
“It was through the roof. Crushed everything, everybody. There wasn’t anything within…they lapped everyone. Without getting into detail, the package in general is going to be an eight-figure deal. A guaranteed eight-figure fight deal.”
Eddie Alvarez’s UFC career came to an end following a TKO in the second round of his rematch against Dustin Poirier at UFC on FOX 28. However, the UFC did still try to keep him with the organisation, Alvarez is too much of an undeniable talent to let go without a fight. It wasn’t enough to keep The Underground King tied down to the organisation as he revealed the offer from ONE FC promised more than just monetary gain.
“When I left the table at the UFC and said I wanted to go and explore, this is the deal I had in my mind,” Alvarez said. “One made me a partner in their promotion. It was more of a partnership than, ‘Hey, come on as a fighter. Here’s your money to fight,’ and that’s it. They made me a true partner. It’s a package deal. It’s nothing like a normal MMA contract. They fully committed to me, and we are full committing back.”
It will be interesting to watch how the next chapter of the career of Eddie Alvarez unfolds. As of right now there is no set date for his ONE FC debut, but he is hoping for early 2019.
