Smith Continues To Impress At UFC Moncton

The latest UFC Fight Night took place this weekend in Moncton, New Brunswick, headlined by an intriguing bout between two knockout artists at 205. Volkan “No Time” Oezdemir #2 took on Anthony “Lionheart” Smith #10 (Rankings accurate as of 27th October 2018).

In the first two rounds, Volkan Oezdemir had plenty of encouraging moments with several good leg kicks and some strong top control, but ultimately, Volkan ended up gassing himself out in the third round. This was all part of the game plan for “Lionheart” as he turned up the pressure, shooting for a takedown, taking Volkan’s back and sinking in a tight Rear Naked Choke to get the tap.

After the fight, Anthony Smith made the expected statement and called for his title shot. With Jon Jones returning in December to face the #1 contender Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson. When asked for his opinion on Lionheart’s victory, it’s safe to say Jon Jones wasn’t exactly enthusiastic.

For now, Anthony Smith has earned a well-deserved rest, but come December 29th, he’ll be keeping a keen eye on the main event of UFC 232, as he may very well be facing the winner of that contest in his next bout.

If Anthony Smith was not to get his title shot next, potential next fights for him could be taking on the winner of Anderson/Latifi or new arrival amongst the contenders at 205, Dom Reyes.

Whatever comes next for Lionheart is yet to be seen. But for this exciting fighter, one thing we do know is that no matter what happens, it will definitely be one to watch.
