The UFC have officially announced that Tyron Woodley will defend his Welterweight title against rising challenger Kamaru Usman at UFC235. Usman is on a 9 fight win streak in the UFC and certainly deserving of the opportunity but the announcment has come as a surprise to some, especially the former Interim Champion Colby Covington who had expected to be next in line for the title shot. Covington recently appeared on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show to air his grievances with the promotion.
“I didn’t get the title shot because of politics. Dana White has lied to me. The UFC has lied to me.”
Usman recently impressed Dana White with a dominant performance over Rafael dos Anjos at the Ultimate Fighter Finale in November. The fight will be Woodley’s 5th title defense having defeated English challenger Darren Till via 1st round submission at UFC228.
