After last nights meeting with the NSAC, Khabib and Conor McGregor finally received their punishments for the chaotic brawl which unfolded post fight at UFC 229. The board came to a conclusion on the lengths of suspensions for each fighter, and settled on the fines which they will be forced to pay. Here is everything you need to know…
- Conor McGregor received a fine of $50,000. Suspended for 6 months (backdating to the fight).
- Khabib Nurmagomedov received a fine of $500,000. Suspended for 9 months (backdating to fight).
- Nurmagomedov has the option to participate in an anti-bullying message. Which would result in a 3 month reduction on his suspension.
- Khabib’s team mates, Abubakar and Zubaira were given a suspension of 1 year and fined $25k each for their involvement in the assault on Conor inside the cage. Khabib has stated he will also pay these fines. This would amount to Khabib forfeiting a huge $750k of his fight purse for causing the brawl.
Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz spoke to Ariel Helwani shortly after, where he voiced his unhappy opinion on the final ruling. Stating, ‘I dont think its fair. Khabib gets $500k and Conor gets $50k? I think it’s bullshit.’ The Lightweight Champion posted a simple message to his Twitter account. Followed by a retweet of McGregor tapping out at the end of their fight.
