Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort is reportedly in serious negotiations with the Singapore based promotion and an announcement could be made as early as this week.
A household name for any MMA fan, Vitor Belfort looks set to sign for promotion One according to sources that have spoken to ESPNs Ariel Helwani today. It is rumoured to be a multi-fight deal, but details are scarce at the moment and no indication of a weight class has been hinted either. Sources have also confirmed he met with Bellator officials last month.
Vitor Belfort last fought last year against Lyoto Machida and essentially retired in the octagon afterwards, however in December, Belfort announced on “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show” that he had decided to keep fighting and was hoping to sign with a new promotion in 2019.
This certainly wouldn’t be the hardest thing to believe. The historic trade between Askren and Johnson, Eddie Alvarez and Sage Northcutt jumping ship, One is really making movements in the North American market and with there recent deal with Turner Sports to broadcast live events in the US there going from strength to strength.
I personally want to see Vitor back in the cage, he’s a legend in the sport and can still put on a show! I say this in the belief that he is strong and healthy.. nobody wants to see a repeat of what happened to Chuck Liedell (yes, that was a De La Hoya dig).
