Anthony “Showtime” Pettis proved himself in his Welterweight debut at UFC Nashville on Saturday against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. With 5 seconds left of round 2, Pettis exploded with a superman punch of the cage, knocking Wonderboy to the ground and followed it up with two overhands, before referee Herb Dean stepped in. Both fighters displayed so much respect for one another, in a fight that delivered upon its high anticipation.
Speaking to Daniel Cormier after the fight, Anthony Pettis spoke on what he sees in his immediate future: “170 I felt so good… I’ll be here for a while man, I want RDA back, that’s one of the fights I need. Then 155 man, if Dana wants to give it to me the winner of Barboza vs. Gaethje”. You can watch the KO in the player below.

Anthony Pettis, definitely seems like a man revived. After struggling to find consistency in his most recent run of form, this highlight reel KO against a top ranked welterweight will definitely send ripples through out the division, especially since he’s the first to KO ”wonderboy”. Stephen Thompson was transferred to the local hospital after the fight, he went live on Facebook to give his reaction to the KO:
“After 80 fights I’ve never been KO’d – this time by a small guy,” Thompson said. “I can’t believe he got me with the Superman punch. Golly. Superman off the cage. It was so ninja I didn’t even see it coming. I was piecing him up with the jab, I was trying to break his arms with the roundhouse kick. I guess the side kicks, I switched over too much. His punches were slow. The heck? I don’t remember anything. Next thing I knew I was in the back wondering what happened”
The loss is a lot more significant this time around for Thompson, meaning he probably wont get the main event spot on his hometown card, as he hoped for a fight with Robbie Lawler. You can see some reactions from the Thompson vs Pettis fight in the player below.
