Having spent the last 2 months training at a new camp in ATT (American Top Team), rumours circulated that Conor McGregor, following his defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov, had changed camps and was no longer with his longtime coach John Kavanagh, or his team at Straight Blast Gym Ireland.
In an interview with BJPenn.com, Conors friend and long time training partner Artem Lobov said “No, Conor is still with us, we are all still a part of SBG,” Lobov then explained why McGregor hasn’t been at SBG HQ “The thing is that many of the SBG fighters that have kind of retired now or whatever, they have opened their own SBG gyms. So we all will often train not only at the main SBG but other SBG gyms. For example, Peter Queally opened SBG Naas and that’s a great facility, so Conor and many of us would often train there. There’s SBG D24 with Paddy Holohan; we’ve got many SBGs now so as a result it may seem sometimes that we’re not all there at SBG HQ, but we still are all a part of SBG.”
It is unclear whether Conor will use SBG for his future training camps or whether he’ll switch it up, however skill wise, it is probably for the best that McGregor trains with a more wrestling orientated gym in American Top Team, who have top contenders such as Yoel Romero and Tyron Woodley.
