Daniel Cormier: ‘I’ve got my eyes on Brock Lesnar’

Our UFC Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier hasn’t got an official fight date scheduled just yet, but his next opponent is more than set in stone, in his mind anyway.

Upon DC’s historic victory over Stipe Miocic at UFC 226, we saw Cormier hold the UFC Heavyweight title simultaneously with his Light Heavyweight title, crowning DC one of very few ‘champ champs’. During his post fight interview, a cageside Brock Lesnar was invited into the octagon where he shoved Daniel Cormier across the cage, inciting the fight and creating the hype to go along with it.

At first the fight seemed to be just a rumour, a hype job, but shockingly things started moving quite fast, Lesnar had re-entered the USADA testing pool and DC looked to fight Lesnar, then retire by his 40th birthday. Unfortunately however, as quickly as the fight seemingly materialised, it was even quicker in disappearing into the sunset, DC even defended his title against Derreck Lewis to keep the Heavyweight division from stalling. In the end, Lesnar renewed his contract with the WWE, which essentially helped DC as he was then able to take time out and heal up from his injuries.

Fast forward to UFC Nashville where Daniel Cormier is on Colour Analyst duties and gives a brief update to ESPN Sports Centre.”I don’t have a fight exactly scheduled yet but I got my eyes on Brock Lesnar, I may go to the WWE’s WrestleMania and I may go cost him his title over there so he can hurry up and get to the UFC so I can beat him here.” You can see the full exchange in the the player below:

We know Lesnar’s WWE contract only runs until after Wrestlemania, so fans and DC will be hopeful that afterwards, a return to the UFC will occur so that the two Heavyweight’s problems can be resolved.

Do you think we’ll ever see this fight materialise? Or will DC take another fight instead? Let us know in the comments below!
