Mairbek Taisumov accepts 6 month USADA ban for steroids

UFC lightweight Mairbek Taisumov has been handed a 6 month suspension by USADA for testing positive to a banned steroid. The suspension is retroactive to October 8th 2018, meaning he is already eligible to compete.

The Russian athlete last competed at UFC Moscow where he defeated Desmond Green via decision. However, Mairbek Taisumov would forfeit 40% of his purse due to weighing in 5lbs over the limit. The sample in question was also taken during this time, testing positive for Stanozolol.

Stanozolol is a banned steroid under USADA regulations and any trace of it is not allowed. Upon the positive result, Taisumov gave a list of all supplements he had ingested during the fight camp. It was later found in used and unused supplements that had been provided to USADA by Taisumov, even though not listed as an ingredient.

Mairbek is 7-1 in his UFC venture, having won 3 Performance Of The Night Bonuses. You can see the full statement by USADA regarding the matter here.
