Nick Newell to return at CES MMA 56

Nick Newell will be getting back to professional competition next month.

Newell’s last outing came on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series where he lost a unanimous decision to Alex Munoz. He will be debuting for Classic Entertainment & Sports MMA at CES MMA 56 where he faces fellow lightweight Kalvin Hackney. The bout will take place at the Conneticut Convention Center in Hartford, Conneticut and was first reported by MMAjunkie.

Newell is a Conneticut native and is a skilled fighter on the ground, with nine of his fourteen professional victories coming by way of submission. Despite being born with the congenital amputation of his left arm, ending just under his elbow, he is more than capable of competing in an MMA cage. Newell even had a shot at the World Series of Fighting lightweight title after going 11-0 since making his professional debut. Unfortunately, the title was held by chaotic pressure striker, Justin Gaethje, who defended his title via second round TKO, snapping Newell’s impressive undefeated streak.

Justin Gaethje defended his WSOF title against Newell before signing with the UFC.

Kalvin Hackney, Newell’s opponent is an MMA veteran who has competed under the banners of Bellator, Legacy Fighting Championship, and Titan Fighting Championship, to name a few. Hackney boasts a professional record of 16 wins and 5 losses compared to Newell’s record of 14 wins and 2 losses. Hackney is more of a striker with ten of his sixteen professional victories coming by way of KO/TKO. However, Kalvin “Hot Boy” Hackney also has 4 submission victories under his belt so is no slouch on the ground either.

The matchup is sure to be an interesting one and will be available to view on UFC Fight Pass.
