UFC 236 was a stacked card and the two title fights it held will forever go down in memory, as both were absolute wars. Which makes the following report even more shocking.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that ”there is talk that [UFC 236] did well under half of the 200,000 number that would be what one would have predicted the show to do had it been a television PPV.”
Whilst the report is shocking, ESPN+ must take some of the blame, as ordering the PPV through the app proved a massive difficulty for may fans attempting to purchase the PPV. UFC President Dana White however did speak to press after the event to address the technical difficulties:
”The next one will be much better, the next one you’ll be able to purchase right through the app. It’s gonna get easier, it’s gonna get better.”
As with any new product it will take some time to establish itself but let us hope it will be sorted for UFC 237 which is coming up this weekend, having used UFC 236 as a learning experience.
