Kyoji Horiguchi cemented his name in the history books when he became the Bellator bantamweight champion, while simultaneously holding RIZIN’s 135lb title.
Horiguchi proved that his victory over Darrion Caldwell was not a fluke, beating the then champion for a second time this weekend at Bellator 222 in Madison Square Garden.
The Japanese champ has his eyes set on the newly won UFC bantamweight title, which now belongs to Henry Cejudo. Speaking with Ariel Helwani, Horiguchi chuckled, “I want to fight Henry Cejudo. Let’s go. [Speaking on UFC co-promotion] Yes. That’s what I want. Emm… I want it at 135 [lbs]. That’s where he’s better.”
Cejudo is yet to respond to Kyoji’s comments. Kyoji Horiguchi also said that there is a clause in his Bellator contract that he must defend his title once a year, but plans to do it as frequently as he can. Bellator Lightweight and Featherweight champion Patricio Freire has already expressed his interest in facing the Japanese champion:
Should the UFC allow Horiguchi to fight their double-champion for the UFC, Bellator and RIZIN titles? Tell us in the comments!
