GSP shuts down Khabib match: ‘I have other plans for my life’

Former UFC Welterweight & Middleweight Champion Georges St. Pierre has denied a fight with UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, despite hot rumors the two may meet in the coming future.

In an interview with TSN, the Canadian stated he is not interested in a fight with the Dagestani:

“It was on my mind when I retired, I really wanted to do it, but now, telling you the truth, UFC were clear, they had other plans for Khabib so I turned a page. I cannot wait for the fight to happen and twiddle my thumbs.”

I have other plans for my life. Being the best fighter in the world is not my number one priority anymore. It used to be, now it’s not. I have family, friends, I have a lot of more important things to do. I have other projects down the road. Family is the number one priority. It’s very important. Family and health is very important.”

Georges St Pierre has been out of the octagon for nearly 2 years. His last match was against Michael Bisping at UFC 217, which he won via Submission to capture the UFC Middleweight title. However, despite stating he would defend the belt, he vacated it only 34 days into his reign due to illness relating to the weight gain.

Khabib and GSP have been linked to fight before, with Khabib saying earlier this year he wanted to fight GSP before he retired.

However, UFC President Dana White isn’ a fan of the fight, saying

“Well there’s two things — first of all, who doesn’t love Georges St-Pierre? Love Georges St-Pierre, the best ever as far as human beings, great guy, love him.”

“Georges St-Pierre and I had a deal, he was going to fight Bisping at 185 pounds and if he won, he would defend the title. He bailed on that. Didn’t do it. So you can’t just come out and hand pick fights that you want for titles.”
