It’s that time again! The last month of fights was stacked with pound-for-pound greats. Max Holloway and Cris Cyborg etched wins at UFC 240, while Jon Jones and Amanda Nunes continued their reigns at UFC 239. With that in mind, here’s our pound-for-pound top 20 per the PlanetMMA.com staff.
Jon Jones (▲1) – It was far from his most dominant performance against Thiago Santos at UFC 239, but the fact that Jones has won three title fights in seven months was enough for us to put him above Daniel Cormier this month. In fact, Jones fought three times since Cormier’s last fight in November against Derrick Lewis. Perhaps we’ll see a third fight between Cormier and Jones at heavyweight to cement this rivalry once and for all.
Amanda Nunes (▲1) – Nunes’ head kick knockout against Holly Holm at UFC 239 likely cements her as the greatest women’s mixed-martial artist in the world. And with Cris Cyborg being released by the UFC, it doesn’t even look like she has any legitimate challengers at the moment. Nunes has finished every opponent she’s beaten except for Valentina Shevchenko, who has been remarkably dominant at flyweight herself.
Cris Cyborg (▲1) – Her first fight back since being knocked out by Amanda Nunes, Cyborg looked dominant against the previously undefeated Felicia Spencer at UFC 240. Her stand-up reminded us why she had been regarded as the women’s GOAT for so long. However, Spencer’s toughness dragged the fight to a one-sided decision victory for Cyborg. Unfortunately, with her recent release from the UFC, all hope for Cyborg vs. Nunes 2 seems to be lost, perhaps stunting her ability to climb the P4P ranks much further.
