Jon Jones Teases Upcoming Fight

UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon ‘Bones’ Jones, recently took to Twitter to let fans know he will be returning to the octagon soon. Jones made it clear early in 2019 that he was looking to fight three times this year. Thus far Jones has gotten the best of UFC light heavyweights Thiago Santos and Anthony Smith. Both bouts went to the judges scorecards after five rounds, Jones winning unanimously against Smith and in a split decision against Santos.

This tweet leaves a lot of speculation in the MMA community; who does it make sense for Jones to be fighting? He’s already beaten two of the strongest light heavyweights this year, and knocked out Alexander Gustaffson just before the end of 2018 . With Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic having just fought each other in a pretty brutal fight, it doesn’t seem in either of their best interests to fight again this year, especially against Jones.

So who does that leave? Well, number five light heavyweight contender Jan Blachowicz seems to think he’s got what it takes. When Blachowicz appeared on the Ariel Helwani MMA Show he seemed confident about being next in line for a fight with Jones. Jan also teased an upcoming fight on Twitter which definitely seems like a sign he will be getting the title shot. Blachowicz brutally KO’d Luke Rockhold during UFC 239 which gives him even more reason to be in the cage with Jones.

Or what about… Anthony Johnson, better known as ‘Rumble’ Johnson. Jones and Rumble were originally set to fight in May of 2015, unfortunately Jones was suspended by the UFC for a hit-and-run incident before the fight could take place. Back in March, Johnson appeared on the Into The Weeds podcast where he stated, “The only way I’d come out of retirement is if Jon Jones goes to heavyweight, and then that’s when I’ll come out of retirement and fight Jon.” Rumble and his team have announced his come back to be aimed for March of 2020, this would mean Jones won’t have fought three times this year, but that fight seems worth the wait.

Regardless of who the champ fights, it’s bound to be exciting.
