Jacare Souza goes to 205 to face Jan Blachowicz in Brazil

Brett Okamoto broke the news yesterday that Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will be going up to light heavyweight to headline a UFC card in Sao Paulo, Brazil. His opponent on November 16th will be Jan Blachowicz.

Souza (26-7) is coming off a decision loss to Jack Hermansson back in April and has failed to win back to back fights since February 2017. The former strikeforce middleweight champion has never fought for a title in the UFC and he may be hoping that a move to 205 pounds will revive his title aspirations.

Jan Blachowicz (24-8) is coming off am excellent performance in his last bout where he knocked out former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold. Since October 2017 Jan has went 5/6 in the UFC with his only loss in that time coming to former title challenger Thiago Santos. There had been rumours that Jan may challenge Jon Jones however those rumours have been shut down with this fight announcement.

The move upto light heavyweight is almost becoming a trend at the moment and is helping to breath new life into a division that has been dominated by the current champion.

Both fighters have excellent submission skills and power in their hands so it should be an interesting fight wherever it takes place.

Will Souza have a successful transition to light heavyweight or will Jan be successful again against an aspiring former middleweight? Let us know in the comments!
