Dustin Poirier open to Tony Ferguson fight if “Khabib can’t make it”

Despite his fight at UFC 242 being a losing effort, Dustin ‘The Diamond‘ Poirier is one of MMA’s most supported fighters. The former champion remains as a prominent figure in – not only the 155lbs divsion – all of MMA. One of Lafayette’s finest has recently taken to social media to express his willingness to step back into the Octagon.

It’s all but confirmed that lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s next fight will come against his long-time rival Tony Ferguson. The latter has been calling for the champ – who is fresh off of a win over the aforementioned Poirier – to accept a title bout at UFC 245. In a recent Tweet, Ferguson was once again protesting for a fight on December 14th. Poirier butted in, saying that should Khabib not make to the hypothetical fight, he would be ready to step in.

The UFC initially tried to book a fight between Ferguson and featherweight champion Max Holloway for the interim title at UFC 236. After declining the fight, the opportunity fell to Poirier, who would claim the title.

Should Khabib fall out of a potential fight with ‘El Cucuy‘ at UFC 245, would you like to see Poirier step in? Make sure to tell us in the comments and on our Twitter page, @ThePlanetMMA!
