Everybody in the MMA world seems to be impressed by Israel Adesanya’s ground breaking performance against Robert Whittaker at UFC 243 to become the middleweight champion. Well, everyone except Jorge Masvidal.
Jorge Masvidal is a well known fighter, especially right now after his monumental wins over Darren Till and Ben Askren. He faces Nate Diaz at UFC 244 in the main event. He trains at ATT, the same place as the middleweight beast of a man Yoel Romero. Romero is coming off back to back losses to Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa, Adesanya just beat Rob and looks to be facing Costa for his first title defence.
Jorge Masvidal believes that The Last Stylebender was protected by the UFC from Yoel Romero.
“I told everyone that no one is the same after fighting Yoel Romero,” Masvidal wrote on Twitter. “You guys will see. UFC [was] smart for protecting Israel. Yoel wins one and should be next. Should’ve been the one from the get. Rob will never be the same.”
Jorge seems to be implying that Romero ruined Rob’s career. They went to war at UFC 213, where Rob got the best of him. They rematched at UFC 225 in what many call the fight of the year for 2018. Rob was dropped twice heavily and a few people believe Romero did enough to win the fight. Rob pulled through with the win by split decision, however.
What do you think? Is Masvidal right in saying Whittaker will never be the same? Will Izzy ever fight Romero? If so, who wins? Leave your thoughts below!
