Only 3 days after winning the undisputed UFC middleweight title, it appears that Israel Adesanya is close to booking his next fight.
The Nigerian-born Kiwi has not been shy when it comes to speaking about fellow middleweight Paulo Costa. The same could be said for the Brazilian contender. Since 2018, the two 185’rs have been waiting to butt heads. The new champion has called his potential opponent “an over-inflated balloon-animal” and a “Ricky Martin look-a-like”.
Per BJPenn.com, sources from both the champion’s and the challenger’s camps have said that the fighters have agreed on a date. Supposedly, that date is March 2nd. It would be a pay-per-view (numbered) card.
However, the negotiations are still in very early stages. Should the fight fall through, Adesanya said that he will NOT move up to 205lbs. He was quoted as saying, “You saw what I did this weekend? My confidence? Get my f***ing nuts out of your mouth, bruh… this guy is obviously trying to force my hand. He’s trying to force my hand and I’m not stupid. It’s not [that I’m not] confident.”
“Trust me, I will f**k this motherf***er up, when I fight him. I just have to do what I have to do. I have to defend my belt [first]. I just defended my belt and now I am the new unified king. There’s three more killers, four more killers [that] I have to f**k up at middleweight first – and then – then, I will move up in weight. Then I’ll jump up and f**k this guy up.”
