It would appear that long-reigning UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones will be returning to action in early 2020.
Jones, 32, announced to social media earlier this week that his next fight would be in a matter of weeks. The New-Yorker didn’t specify who he would be fighting, but it didn’t take fans very long to deduce his opponent.
Enter Dominick Reyes; the UFC’s #4 ranked 205lb contender. With an undefeated record of 12-0, power in both hands & soaring confidence, the Californian has worked his way to a title shot for the past 2 years.
Reyes, 29, is fresh off of his 1st round TKO win over former middleweight champion Chris Weidman.
Following the win, Reyes called for a fight with the champion. UFC head-honcho Dana White told him that the title shot was currently between himself and Corey Anderson, should Anderson win at UFC 244. Despite Anderson’s first round stoppage, the crack at the belt went to Reyes.
Per Chris Taylor of BJPenn.com, both parties verbally agreed to a date and venue & is all but official.
The arena in question would be the Toyota Center, which the UFC hasn’t visited since 2017. The MMA Leader has booked the Houston-venue for February 8th, making Jones’ comeback set for the spring of 2020.
